M&M's

Origin: Created in 1941 by Forrest Mars and Bruce Murrie, hence the "M&M's". 

World War II: The candy shell was crucial because it kept the chocolate from melting, making them ideal for soldiers. They came in tubes that fit perfectly in military cargo pockets. 

Space: M&M's were the first candy in space. 
Color Change: Red M&M's were temporarily removed in 1976 due to concerns over the red dye (Red #2), even though the dye was not used in M&M's.
